Duathlon 2013

RESULTS FOR 2013 HERE

The City of Durham Duathlon is a 5km run, followed by a 25km bike and then a further 5km run.
The event is based at Meadowfield Leisure Centre, John St North, Durham, DH7 8RS.
It is organised by Durham Triathlon Club and Meadowfield Leisure Centre and is run under BTF rules.

As per 2012, we will use TIMING CHIPS.

What’s Special about the City of Durham Duathlon ?

· Spectator friendly run route close by the transition area.

· Testing bike route including fast sections & one designated climb.

· Team Competition for Tri Clubs.

· Relay Race for specialist runners & cyclists or for beginners.

· Friendly event for beginners who are up for a challenge.

· Durham Tri offer race preparation in advance of the event.

Run Route.
The run route takes place on undulating parkland adjacent to Meadowfield Leisure Centre. Each run stage is 3 laps and stays close by the transition area & car park. This makes it ideal for spectators to keep in touch with the action and cheer on the competitors. The second run follows the same route as the first.

The bike section is a testing ride through County Durham, with something to appeal to riders of all abilities. The highlights are a one mile climb up Buttons Bank from Esh Winning, followed by a long fast descent on the return to Brandon.

Who Can Enter?
We welcome all abilities, whether your sporting background is triathlon or running or cycling or whether you just want to improve your overall fitness or maybe get out of the gym.

· Fitness improvers up for a challenge.

Our sport is open to competitors of all abilities. It is a common misconception to believe that only super fit, super fast athletes enter these events. Obviously you need the basic fitness and endurance required to complete the course, but this is attainable for many people who like a challenge and have done adequate preparation.

For those who specialize in running or cycling, or for those who can’t yet manage all three stages of the run-bike-run, we offer the opportunity to enter a team in the RELAY event. Each team will comprise two runners and one cyclist (any gender or age mix).

· Triathlon Club Competitors.

The event is well established on the Triathlon Calendar in the North East, but to add a little spice for Tri Club Competitors, this year’s event will include a Team Prize for both male & female categories. The total time taken for the first 3 competitors of each gender from each club will decide the standings. Teams need not be nominated in advance and clubs can have more than one team in the standings provided they make up a team of 3 in each gender group.

Help with Preparation.
If you are new to the sport and are unsure “whats the crack” with Duathlon, or you plan to be at the front of the grid and need to practice your transition under race conditions, we offer our Club Duathlon once a month. This informal training event will give you a low pressure opportunity to have a dress rehearsal prior to the race.

See Club Duathlon section on the website for full details.
