Club Duathlon Series

We offer a monthly duathlon series for members and non-members in order to give participants the opportunity to...

  • Practise back to back run-bike-run disciplines
  • Practise transitions
  • Enjoy the feeling of running straight after a bike ride!
  • Experience a low pressure, fun, training environment with other club members, that emulates a real event

Location: DH1 2PF High Shincliffe, 3.5km SE of Durham City.

Distance: 3km run - 18km bike - 3km run

Format: A handicap system is used with the slowest competitors starting first. Handicaps are determined by the organiser, based on previous times.

Run route: The run route is generally fast & flat. It follows a figure-of-8 circuit around High Shincliffe, on road and footpath.

Bike route: The Bike route is fast with one significant climb up to High Shincliffe.

Date & Time: Winter Series duathlons are held on the third Sunday of each month. See the calendar for confirmation. Arrive from 09:00 to sign on, Briefing at 09:40

Session Fee: £3 to the organiser on the day.

VERY IMPORTANT:

 

  • Bike helmets must be worn. NO HELMET-NO START!
  • Normal transition rules apply.
  • Riders must observe the Highway code.

 

Duathlon League

The Duathlon League runs over the 5 events of the Winter Series.

Points. Points are awarded in each event for ALL  finishers! [30 points for 1st, 29 points for 2nd etc.... 6 points for 25th; all others get 5 points].

Prizes. At the end of the Series there will be prizes for the first 5 Males and Females.
A time-based League will also operate using your best 3 scratch times over the Series, with prizes for the first 3 Males and Females.
In addition, each segment of the events will attract a prize, with an award for the Fastest Run 1/ Run 2/ Bike/ Transition 1+2  over the Series.
Prizes will also be awarded for the first 3 Novices [Male and Female] in the Points League.

Novices are new-to-triathlon participants who have taken part in no more than two of our Series of Events [i.e. Winter Series plus Summer Series]

Prize giving usually takes place at our Christmas social event.

The Summer Series of club Duathlons will move now to Thursday evenings, starting in May.

The dates are May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19. Check the website closer to the time for precise details, but the outline plan is for sign-on from 18:15 with starters going from 19:00.
