Joe Applegarth has circulated details of some local Audax rides which could be incorporated into your training schedules
For a bit of variety in your cycling training, you might like to try some Audax events and /or Time Trial races. A sample, organized by Houghton Cycling Club are listed below, along with their regular 9.2 mile TT on the Leamside circuit every Tuesday [May to August]
Audax - generally events from 100km up to 600km [and far beyond...]. There are set minimum and maximum speeds [15kph - 30kph] so they suit a very wide range of riders. Each rider gets a Brevet Card which has to be time-stamped at intermediate points.
Sunday 21st March, Killhope Grimpeur, a 100km loop into the north Pennines, starting from Lanchester. 1800 m of climbing via Killhope Cross and Crawleyside
Sunday 11th April, The Gilpin’s Gallop, 100km and 200km rides from Newbottle, Houghton le Spring
Saturday 17th July, Lanchester, 405 km. Starting at 2pm from Lanchester via Allenheads, Alston, Gilsland, Newcastleton, Moffat, Dumfries, High Hesket, Hartside, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Frosterley and back to Lanchester. There are about 5,500 m of climbing.
Sunday 12th September, Durham and Northumberland 100km and 200km rides from Newbottle, Houghton le Spring
