BUSY WEEKEND FOR DURHAM TRI!

24-04-2012
Big competitions at home and abroad.
April 29: The City of Durham Duathlon, the Club's flagship event takes place on Sunday at Meadowfield. It's a tough little event and the 3 laps on the grass and paths around Meadowfield Leisure Centre are guaranteed to get the blood circulating and stretch out the 100+ entrants in this year's event. Then the bike loop is a testing circuit out through Ushaw Moor and Esh Winning before heading seriously uphlll on the Button's Bank climb from East Headleyhope towards Sunniside. The descent to Brancepeth will be a welcome respite  after that, but then there's still a few miles to cover before the athletes have to tackle the run course again. Last year's winner, Philip Addyman of Ryton had a time of 1:22:44, just 6 seconds ahead of Biketrak's Gary Grounds in a very exciting second run. We can't guarantee a nail-biting finish every year of course, but we live in hope!
Abroad, Hilary Ross will be racing for Team GB in the European Duathlon Championships at Horst in Holland.
Hilary is the current World and European champion in her Age Group for the standard distance event [10k run /40k bike /5k run] but this year's Championship is over the Long Course distance of 15k run /60k bike /7.5k run, and it's quite a different proposition. So best wishes to Hilary in Horst!
Results of both events will be up as soon as possible, probably Sunday evening.
