Just done Newby Hall duathlon.
10k run, 40k bike, 5k run.
Very nice well run event.
The grounds of Newby Hall are beautiful.
The run is 2 laps of 5k, very nice run, all bar 800m on closed roads and farm track, and the road section is through a very quiet village.
The cycle is part single track tarmac and main road. The roads where quiet but that’s due to the 8 am start! The route was well signed.
All in all, good event.
They are doing a Tri there too on the 17th June.
[functionalfitnesscoaching.co.uk]
Beat my target time and was miles from last, so good result for me!

On Sunday 3rd June I will be organising a non-competitive half-ironmanish distance training run down at Ellerton. Its 4 weeks before Outlaw and perfect timing to swim, bike and run to a good distance. WIll be something like: swim for a set one hour (distance is a bit hard to judge at Ellerton), 3 laps of the steel man circuit (87 miles), run tbc but looking at about 13-15mile route. Obviously no refreshment stops so you'd need to be self-feeding,etc. Ellerton carpark would serve as base and there won't be any transition as such so poss/porb 15 min gatherings/breaks between each discipline to keep it a bit relaxed. Just a rough shape of poss how it may work at this stage...ideas welcome but whatever shape it happens in...i'll be there! Post back thoughts.

0930 leaving The Lodge on the A167 on Sunday

plan is to ride out to button bank and have a go at how fast we can get up it (those of you who follow the facebook page will already be aware) certainly just a bit of fun and something we will replicate sporadically so you're racing yourself, not others. Even if you dont want to time/race up it its a good bank to do some reps (we will cycle it gently first to make sure everyone is familiar and warmed up) or tehre are a number of short hilly loops to try.

sounds like some people will be joining us to get back to durham promptly and make time for the chester le street swim session, others may choose to ride further and get some hills in since its the theme of the day - leaders welcome to speak up.

NB I'm not offering a timing service so bring a watch/bike speedo with timer and a pinch of honesty ;o) . if well attended we can organise something formal for future visits with a more elaborate system and make it all formal n that.

hope to see you there

Happened to be engaged in a conversation about doing long distance relay races last night. after leaving, it baffled me why i hadnt really thought of this before.
If anyone is up for this I will gladly take the bike section, or could be convinced to take a run section in races. do other people want to offer specialisms that they think they could 'knock out' or have any particular races they would like to do but are unsure of completing the whole distance...

no promises need to me be made (until you actually enter a race with someone!), just thought it could be a place for a good coming-together for people...
Also wondering who's up for a night out in Notts after. I've booked the premier inn (london road) btw. The on site place didn't get many good reviews and love them or loath them i always find them ok and more importantly don't tend to have wedding and birthdays etc that keep you awake all night as happened before Edinburgh Marathon among other events.

Hi Guys,

Last week we headed to the coast on a blustery cycle through Seaham and stopping in a favourite cafe on the front.

This week I'm thinking about covering part of the Beast route unless anyone has any other ideas.

We meet as always at the Lodge which is on the A167 near to the Bearpark turning at 9am.

Hi to you all,

This Sunday is the Club's Away-day Race at Stockton and as a result there are likely to be few takers for the Sunday Cycle, if you do still fancy meeting up to cycle with others then meet at the Lodge at 9am on the A167 near to the turning to Bearpark but numbers cannot be guaranteed.

Have fun

Hello to you all,

Just a reminder that Butterwick Hospice will be running their annual ride to raise funds on Sunday 25th September starting at Elm Tree Social Club, Bishopton Lane, Stockton-on-Tees. The ride starts at 10.30am and is 25 miles of easy undulating road for a fast or easy ride.

Two years ago, a group of club members rode down from the Lodge, with Neil's great directions, in time to enrole and start. So how about it this year! It's a very worthy cause and it would be good to have club support.

Last week we did two loops, one over the hills beyond Cornsay and then a second loop over the old C-le-S timetrial route through Leamside.

This week I'm proposing a shorter ride through Satley up the hill to Butsfield across to Knitsley a faster return to Lanchester, up Maiden Law across to Burnhope and back. This could be extended or shortened to suit all abilities.

I hope to see you all.

Hi everyone,

Last week seven of us headed out through Butsfield to the A68 and crossing over at Rowley to take a quiet back route to the Derwent Reservoir, the guys decided to head back whilst Roz and myself circuited the reservoir then foolishly decided to take a different route back with two long winding roads with 20% hills.

This week I'm planning to go out by 7.30 but I will still meet up at the Lodge at 9am.If anyone would like an earlier start let me know.

Any suggestions for routes would be welcome!

We meet as always at the Lodge on the A167 near to the Bearpark turning at 9am

Hello everyone,

Last week several people braved the wet weather and headed for the hills, I'm not sure where to??? as I couldn't join them.

This week I am looking to do a loop around Derwent Reservoir which will be about 52 miles although this could be cut shorter to suit.

We meet at the lodge at 9am near to the Bearpark turning on the A167.

I hope to see you there.

Hi to you all,

This week the ride is heading towards the hills, I will be doing a three hour + ride unless it is tipping it down ( forecast looks a bit dubious at the moment)

We meet at the Lodge on the A167 near the turning to Bearpark at 9am.

See you all there.

This week, on Sunday, I intend to do a 40+ ride out to Seaham, which is more undulating than hilly if anyone would like to join me.

We meet at the Lodge, near to the turning to Bearpark, at 9am.
